Our presence in Europe

Europe is at the heart of Faurecia Hydrogen Solutions’ innovation and industrial footprint, with operations centered in France through our global hydrogen R&D center in Bavans and our flagship production plant in Allenjoie.

The Bavans R&D Center is FORVIA’s global center of expertise for hydrogen storage systems and hydrogen transportation solutions. Our engineering teams design and validate advanced hydrogen storage solutions for mobility applications, develop next-generation Type IV cylinders, and pioneer innovative technologies to improve storage capacity, durability, recyclability and cost reduction.

The site features state-of-the-art testing capabilities, including hydraulic and gas testing. Bavans also develops TPED-certified cylinders and complete solutions for hydrogen transport and distribution, including the assembly of Multiple Element Gas Containers (MEGCs) that enable the safe and efficient delivery of gaseous hydrogen across Europe.

Just a few kilometers away, the Allenjoie manufacturing plant became France’s first high-volume hydrogen storage production facility, starting customer deliveries in 2023. With an annual production capacity of 100,000 hydrogen cylinders, the site supplies leading European mobility manufacturers and supports the rapid scale-up of hydrogen-powered transportation.

Beyond mobility applications, Allenjoie also manufactures TPED-certified cylinders dedicated to hydrogen transport and distribution solutions, such as MEGCs and hydrogen bundles, supporting the expansion of hydrogen infrastructure across Europe.

Together, Bavans and Allenjoie form a unique hydrogen ecosystem combining world-class engineering, testing, industrialization, and manufacturing capabilities to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen mobility, hydrogen transportation, and hydrogen distribution solutions across Europe and beyond.

Our presence in China

China is a strategic market for FORVIA, supporting the rapid growth of hydrogen mobility and infrastructure through advanced hydrogen storage technologies and strong industrial partnerships.

In 2021, FORVIA strengthened its position in the Chinese hydrogen ecosystem through the acquisition of Shenyang Gas Cylinder Safety Technology Co., Ltd. (CLD), a leading manufacturer of high-pressure gas cylinders. This milestone significantly expanded FORVIA’s capabilities in Type I, Type III, and Type IV hydrogen cylinders as well as complete hydrogen storage systems for passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, off-road equipment, and industrial applications.

To accelerate the development of hydrogen mobility in China, Sinopec Capital invested in Faurecia Hydrogen Solutions China, creating a strategic partnership that combines FORVIA’s expertise in hydrogen storage systems with Sinopec’s extensive hydrogen infrastructure network. This collaboration supports the deployment of a comprehensive hydrogen value chain, from production and distribution to vehicle adoption.

As of 2024, FORVIA CLD has delivered more than 20,000 Type III cylinders for automotive applications and became the first company in China to obtain a production license and product homologation for Type IV hydrogen cylinders. The site has also been recognized as a Green Factory and received several prestigious awards for technological innovation and industrial excellence.

Located in Anting, Shanghai, Faurecia Hydrogen Solutions China serves as a key hub for research, development, and industrialization. Its hydrogen storage system assembly line has an annual production capacity of 1,000 systems, supporting the growing demand for fuel cell and hydrogen-powered vehicles across the country.

Beyond mobility, FORVIA is also a major player in the respiratory and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) cylinder market, supplying more than 300,000 cylinders annually for applications such as firefighting, emergency services, industrial safety, and recreation.

With advanced manufacturing capabilities, pioneering Type IV technology, and strong partnerships across the hydrogen ecosystem, FORVIA is helping drive the transition toward a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable hydrogen economy in China.

Our presence in North America

FORVIA is accelerating the adoption of hydrogen mobility across North America by partnering with leading players in the transportation ecosystem and supplying advanced hydrogen storage solutions for commercial vehicles. The region represents a strategic growth market for hydrogen-powered trucking, where long range, fast refueling and payload capacity are critical requirements.

A recent example is the collaboration between Savage and Symbio North America to deploy hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks for drayage operations. The solution combines Symbio's fuel cell technology with FORVIA's 70 MPa XL hydrogen storage tanks, enabling full-shift operation, rapid refueling and high payload capacity for demanding freight applications.

FORVIA is also contributing to a pioneering hydrogen mobility ecosystem in Detroit alongside the City of Detroit, Symbio, BayoTech and Ivys. The initiative brings together hydrogen production, infrastructure, storage and vehicles to demonstrate a practical pathway for large-scale hydrogen deployment in urban transportation.

These projects build on FORVIA's growing commercial success in the region. In late 2023, the company secured two contracts to supply Type IV hydrogen storage systems to major medium-duty and heavy-duty truck manufacturers in North America, reinforcing its position as a trusted technology partner for the transition to zero-emission transportation.

With proven technology, industrial expertise and strategic partnerships across the hydrogen value chain, FORVIA is helping shape the future of clean commercial mobility throughout North America.
