FORVIA's type 4 hydrogen cylinders are made of a lightweight, thin but high-strength composite carbon fiber, to maximize hydrogen storage capacity while minimizing vehicle weight.
In Europe, Faurecia has been developing Type 4 hydrogen cylinders for years. The company has successfully delivered series to Stellantis for their first generation of light commercial vehicle (awarded in 2018) and to Hyundai for medium-duty truck X-Cient (awarded in 2019). In 2022, the company continues its commercial success through significant awards among with Renault to supply complete hydrogen storage systems for light commercial vehicles.
On May 8th, 2021, Faurecia CLD became the first factory in China to obtain a manufacturing license for type 4 hydrogen storage cylinders for vehicles. Since then, China has entered the Type 4 hydrogen storage tank era.
